Graduated from the Literature Department of the Vietnam National University ,

Joined the Army in July, 1963 and discharged in August, 1983. Fire Commander; Platoon Chief; Company Political Officer; Personal Assistant for Propaganda and Training of the Regiment; Head and Deputy Political Commissar of the Regiment; Deputy Head of the Propaganda and Training Department of the Political Department, the Air Defense and the Air Force Command.

Attended the Central Nguyen Ai Quoc School.

Postgraduate study at the Academy of Social Sciences of the Soviet Communist Party Central Committee (AON-Moscow).

Deputy Director of the Institute of Marxist-Lenin and Ho Chi Minh Thought (1993-1996).

Deputy Head, and Standing Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee Commission for Ideology and Culture, Deputy Head of the PCC Commission for Propaganda and Education (1996-2008).

High-Ranking Expert of the PCC Commission for Propaganda and Education, Deputy Chairman of the National Literature and Art Review Committee Council. Editor-in-chief of Communist Party of Vietnam Online Newspaper. Member of the Executive Committee of the Vietnamese Journalist Association.
